Official Presentation of the Revised Compensation Rates

OFFICIAL PRESENTATION OF THE REVISED HARMONISED COMPENSATION RATES TO THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN OF THE KWARA STATE GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SERVICE ON MONDAY 4TH AUGUST, 2025

The Honourable Minister for Housing and Urban Development, represented by ESV Azeez Bello on Monday 4th of August 2025 presented the just completed harmonised compensation rate documents to Kwara State Government through its agency, Kwara State Geographic Information Service, KWAGIS.

The Honorable Minister through his representative presented the document to the Executive Chairman of KWAGIS for onward delivery to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasak, CON.

The Honorable Minister acknowledged the fact that the old compensation rate is long overdue. He stated that the last review was in 2008 which is detrimental to the development and growth of the Nation by undervaluing agricultural products during acquisition process and underpaying property owners.

He now said that in the spirit of Renew Hope of Mr President and Commander in Chief, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has taken it upon itself to carry out the review nationwide.

He said he appreciated the cooperation of all stakeholders involved in the review of the compensation rate, most especially Estate Surveyors and Valuers who are the custodians of values and are closed to this customary land owners.

The Chairman of NIESV Kwara State Branch, Esv. Alli Kehinde Abdulrasheed fnivs, representing all the Estate Surveyors and Valuers in Kwara State in his comment appreciated the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and he emphasized that the Ministry should not rest on its oars by just making the documents a mere paperwork.

ESV Alli said the Ministry should, as a matter of urgency, start the implementation of the rate with immediate effect and to also have it in mind as a matter of policy to carry out review of these rate at least every three to five years so as to meet the order of the day.
Present at the meeting were, Chairman of KWAGIS who is the eyes of the Executive Governor of Kwara State in charge of compensation matters and the acquiring authority, ESV Abdulkareem Sulyman Babatunde.

Also in attendance from KWGIS are ESV Tayo Adekeye fnivs, Director of Land Services, ESV Waheed Jimoh, Deed Registrar who also doubles as the NIESV Kwara Branch Vice Chairman, ESV Sulyman Alao, representing the Head of Acquisition Unit, who is also the Treasurer of Niesv Kwara State Branch, ESV Moshood Hassan, LUAC Secretary, ESV Hafsat Adedeji, Technical Assistant to the Executive Chairman of KWAGIS and the media team of KWAGIS.

The Comptroller of Federal Ministry of Works, Arc Joy O. Okemute and TPL Hassan Yinka Shuaib, Zonal Town Planning Officer for Kwara State were in attendance.

A vote of thanks was given by TPL Hassan Yinka Shuaib appreciating all stakeholders for attending the meeting in their large nos despite the short notice given.
He promised that the Ministry will always collaborate with Niesv Kwara Branch and all relevant authorities on compensation issues.
